Evaluation of the usability of an application about Parkinson's Disease

Abstract :

The use of mobile technology has shown an important means of access to education, including in health, due to the ease of communication between health professionals and the population. Thus, the use of the mobile application (app) has become increasingly present in people's daily lives when it comes to health, with an increasing number of apps available in digital distribution stores of mobile applications. Based on this premise, the application (app) “Living with Parkinson” was created and registered, contains texts, videos, audios and images whose objective is to convey information in clear language and with an interactive layout based on accessibility principles. Assessing the usability of an application is important to identify the user needs, especially in health services, making it possible to include them in the development of health devices, ensuring their operation and safety for the user. Thus, the application was evaluated by experts in Human-Computer Interaction and individuals with Parkinson's Disease following Nielsen's Usability Heuristics. It was observed that the greatest interest in an application with this profile are parkinsonians with a recent diagnosis, who had minimal access to cell phones, WhatsApp and Google. In addition, it was possible to formalize a final version of the application after technical adjustments proposed by experts and add other information suggested by future users. The application achieved excellent usability defined by the Brooke scale in terms of user evaluation. It is concluded that facilitating strategies for greater adherence and facilitation of handling the device should be considered in usability studies.

Biography :

Naira Rúbia Rodrigues Pereira is a Speech-Language Pathologist who graduated from the University of Brasília in 2017. She has a specialization in Intensive Care from the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Health at the Federal University of Goiás. And, currently, she is a Master's student in the Science in Rehabilitation Program at the University of Brasília, starting her career in scientific research with a focus on telemedicine and neurodegenerative disease.
