Abstract :

Experts are predicting that the next generation or evolution of the Internet will be driven by the coming explosion of connected devices that will require reliable connectivity everywhere and every time. Some of these use cases will require very low latency connectivity and some will require very high bandwidth. What is clear, however, is that the addition of billions of new devices and data sources will require a next generation Internet, often referred to as 5G, to manage the new requirements. As with all increases in capacity, new spectrum requirements are already at the heart of the discussion. We must discuss which bands of spectrum will be required for IoT and how dynamic access to spectrum can play a key role in building the network of the future. After all, IoT has grown in significant importance across the globe, particularly in areas such as healthcare, farming, resource management, smart-cities, and sensors. The author will address how dynamic access, using collection sensing, location monitoring and database technologies, is the only way to work with incumbent users in a manner that allows use of spectrum when and where it is not being utilized.
