Introduction: Autophagy is a catabolic process that provide to degradation long-lived proteins, damaged organelles, microorganism with lysosomes. It has been shown that deficient autophagy results in cancer, infection and neurodegenerative diseases. The aim of our studies to investigate expression of LC-3 as autophagy marker vs. TMEM74 in breast cancer. Methods: In this study, mRNA expression of LC-3 vs. TMEM74 gene were analyzed with Real-Time PCR by IFC Controller HX and BioMark HD System using normal and tumor tissue samples of 69 breast cancer patients. Results: Expression of LC-3 ve TMEM74 were found significantly lower in tumor tissue than normal breast tissue. Conclusions: It is the first study showing expression levels of LC-3 and TMEM74 protein in breast cancer. It is thought that changes in the expression of LC-3 vs. TMEM74 genes may play an important role in breast cancer. It may contribute to the development of early diagnosis and new therapeutic approaches in breast cancer.
