Abstract :

A case of faun tail nevus in a teenage Amazagh girl devoid of all neurological, spinal, urological complications is presented and she attended the dermatology department only with cosmetic embarrassment. A faun tail nevus is abnormal lumbosacral hypertrichosis and may be associated with spinal dysrasphism. A faun tail nevus is characterized by a wide, generally triangular twisted vicinity of coarse hair, which is frequently several inches long. Faun tail nevus is a rare distinctive entity, where patient's wellbeing and quality of life may also be jeopardized due to the cosmetic physical appearance. Here author reported an 18-years old Amazagh girl, with a rhomboidal shaped hair tuft with terminal hair on the lumbosacral area and she had this unusual hair since birth. There were no neurologic signs, urological, orthopedic or abnormality on her lower spine X-ray. In addition, her general blood and hormonal investigations and abdominal ultra sound were all unremarkable. Cosmetic perfection can be achieved using Alexandrite laser, which can be the ultimate method of choice for everlasting hair removal mean due to its safe, efficient, effective and convenient application. The diagnosis was made on the clinical underpinning. The teens reported for only the cosmetic disability. A patch of hair on the lower back could be a cutaneous marker of spinal dysraphism and warrants consideration of underlying spinal abnormalities to prevent neurologic sequelae.
