Abstract :

With the growing recognition of the value of herbs, it is surely time to examine the professional therapeutic use of these herbs. There are profound changes happening in the world culture and herbal medicine, 'green medicine,' is playing an ever-increasing role in people's experience of this transformation?. Arthritis is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints. There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. The most common form, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection. Thus, with the idea to treat this arthritis in a natural way, the present study was focused on formulation of a plant extracts such as Gloriosa superba Linn, commonly known as Agnimukhi, one of the endangered species which is a striking tuberous climbing plant in India. The extracts were processed for the pharmacognostic study and for thin layer chromatographic analysis and were found to be significant and confirm the presence of alkaloids such as colchicine. That is why the current research is focused on the development and evaluation of the innovative topical formulation for arthritis.
