Abstract :

The radioprotective effect of Aloe vera was studied in liver of Swiss albino mice. Animals were divided into two groups. Animals of group-1 administered Aloe vera (drug) and control set of group-2 were given radiation only, whereas animals experimental set of group-2 were administered by Aloe vera+Radiation (5.5 Gy). Histopathology was assessed at different intervals from day 3 of post irradiation. Results suggest that Aloe vera modulate the radiation induced pathological alterations in Swiss albino mice. Administration of Aloe vera probably helped in maintaining the balance up to some extent between free radicals and antioxidant level and thereby provided protection to mice liver. To minimize the oxidative stress, general public is advised to use Aloe vera regularly.
