Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) also known as pneumococcus is a Gram-positive bacteria and a major human pathogen that cause life threatening diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis and other common mild, selflimiting infections such as acute otitis media. Common treatments for pneumococcal infections are ²-lactams (penicillin G, amoxicillin, cephalosporins), vancomycin, macrolides and respiratory fluoroquinolones. Although these treatments were shown to have good results in efficacy of pneumococcal treatment, they also are well known to have toxicity effects and some of the antimicrobial drugs start to developed resistance towards S. pneumoniae. Homeopathy is one of alternative treatment that has not been tested in treating S. pneumoniae infections. Male BALB/c mice will be tested using 20 ¼l dosage of 2107 CFU of S. pneumoniae. Based on this study, it is possible that both homeopathic medicines Streptococcinum and Pneumococcinum exhibit antibacterial properties. Overall it may shows that these homeopathic medicines may help treat diseases that cause by S. pneumoniae.
