Abstract :

Hypertension is gradually or has become a common health issue however; it can be prevented or controlled. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a condition in which there is excessive long term force of blood applied to the walls of the artery that leads to heart disease. Hypertension is a major risk for several medical conditions such as coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation to mention but a few. High blood pressure can also be defined as when the blood pressure is 140/90mmHg and 180/120mmHg which is considered as very severe. Early symptoms of hypertension include early morning headaches, nose bleeding, irregular heartbeats, vision changes and buzzing in the ears, while in severe hypertension there could be fatigue, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, restlessness, chest pain as well as muscle tremors. Hypertension usually develops as a result of unhealthy life style, lack of regular physical activities, obesity and certain health conditions. There are four stages of high blood pressure which is ranging from elevated BP of 120 – 129/less than 80mmHg to crisis higher than 180/120mmHg. Hypertension can be prevented through the following; eat healthy, keep a healthy weigh, regular exercises or being physically active, change of life style such as stop or reduce smoking or drinking of alcohol and ensure adequate rest as well as sleep. Causes of High BP include family history, chronic disease conditions, stress, lack of physical activities and high salt, fat or cholesterol in the diet. Hypertension has some risk factors such as obesity or over weight, too much salt or too little potassium in the diet and too much drinking of alcohol and smoking. Stay healthy, eat healthy and stay away from hypertension because hypertension is a silent killer in human beings however it can be prevented or controlled as there is no cure for high blood pressure.
