Background: Drug administration is a fundamental, sensitive and critical aspect of professional nursing care that requires skillful technique and regard for the developmental level and safety of the patient. The lack of sufficient attention to the correct principles of drug administration can lead to ethical and professional problems. Objectives: The goal of this study is to explain strategies that Iranian pediatric nurses used during drug administration. Materials & Methods: The qualitative approach and content analysis method were used. Fifteen (15) pediatric nurses involved in medication administration were selected for participation using purposive sampling. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews. Using continuous analysis, data collection and comparison were performed at the same time. Results: Data analysis extracted the theme of loyalty as the main strategy of pediatric nurses during drug administration. The main category of loyalty was divided into eight subcategories: Principled drug administration, double-checking for high alert drugs, reminders to physicians, seeking drug information, supervision of novice nurses, follow-up and resolving of drug shortages, removing difficulties in pediatric drug administration, application of professional experience. Conclusions: Strategies of pediatric nurses during drug administration reflect the ethical concept of loyalty. It is suggested that this value be encouraged in nurses to improve ethical care during drug administration.
