Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. The current treatment options are not always effective or safe. Physalis angulata L. is a species used in Colombian folk medicine whose cytotoxicity has been demonstrated against a variety of adenocarcinoma cells including those from CRC. Previously, a primary fraction (F-02) from its total extract inhibited selectively two CRC cell lines (HT-29 and CaCo-2) and produced a therapeutic effect in the AOM/DSS-induced colon cancer model. In this study we made a systematic fractionation of F-02 under a bioguided scheme to identify the metabolites that are responsible for its biological activity.
