Introduction & Aim: Nursing practice is based above all on long-standing traditions and professional experience of nurses. The development of medical science however, requires that current scientific advances be brought into practice and that nursing care for patients is based on scientific evidence. Focusing on the results of care and the objective measurement of these results is one of the options for directing nursing practice to scientific foundations. The aim of this study is to establish the nurseā??s opinion on objectively measuring and analyzing the outcomes of patient care in the existing nursing organization in university hospitals. Method: A survey of 250 nurses from 6 university hospitals in Sofia, which is a training base for students of the nursing specialty of the Faculty of Public Health of the Medical University Sofia was conducted. Nursing polls were conducted during post-graduate training courses in 2017. Result & Conclusion: The existing organization of nursing care in university hospitals only partially includes assessing the outcomes of care. According to nurses, it is difficult to introduce objective criteria for measuring outcomes of care and they are based primarily on their practical experience to make that assessment. Nursing practice in the country requires the use of well-established scales and scientifically proven methods for determining the outcomes of patient care.
