Background: The construction industry in the United Kingdom is widely known as one of the dangerous industries to work and prominent for hazardous activities and carry a poor reputation for the high accident rate. According to HSC, In 2018/19, 30 workers in the construction industry became the victim of fatal injuries, and 2420 faced non-fatal injuries at the workplace in Great Britain. Despite all occupational health and safety regulations, technological advancement and adoption of safety management systems, HSE statistics reflects high injury and fatalities rates on construction sites. The comparative higher accident rate in the construction industry seeks to explore the understanding of construction professionals on accident causation. This research used the empirical methodology to investigate the perception of the United Kingdom’s construction safety managers on accidents to improve safety performance. Findings: There has been a consensus among the safety managers that 75% of the accidents are caused due to human error and 20% of accidents are the results of organization factors. The research further found that accidents can be reduced by managing human error, risk assessment, and efficient supervision on construction sites. Conclusion: Occupational health and safety have a significant role in the success of any construction project. The early involvement of safety managers, effective planning, supervision, as well as training of workers can reduce human error and fatalities on the construction site.
