The aim of the present study was to prepare sustained release microsponges drug delivery system employing combination of polymers. The microsonges were prepared by quasi emulsion technique using aceclofenac as the model drug and biocompatible and biopolymers combination forms like carbopol-934 and eudragit RS 100, polyvinyl alcohol 72,000 against carbopol-934 only. Microsponges were evaluated for particle size, percentage yield, flow properties, drug entrapment efficiency, in vitro drug release profile and drug release kinetic study. Absence of significant drug-carrier interaction was confirmed by infrared spectroscopic (IR) data. The effect of drug and different polymer combination on in vitro drug release profile was examined. Microsponges employing sustained release polymers used in combination, exhibited slow release of drug up to 24 hours with zero order release kinetic fashion. Finally it can be concluded that we can controlled the release of drug by using polymers in combination and minimize the unwanted toxic effects of drug by kinetic control of drug release.
