T he incidence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is rising in children. Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) is the most frequently used dialysis modality in children with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) worldwide. The current population of the Republic of Guatemala is estimated to be about 15.44 million people and now 2194 (2012) patients are in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and 10% are children. All the public health patients with CKD are treated in UNAERC (Unidad Nacional de Atención al Enfermo Renal Crónico/National Unit to treat CKD Patients), this unit was founded in 1998 and the pediatric program began in 2006 with 20 patients. Presently, there are 175 children in CAPD. A retrospective study to know the epidemiologic, demographic, biochemistries and dialysis performance characteristics in children population with PD in Guatemala was done. The lack of public health care financial resources in our country prevents renal transplantation to be the first option of renal replacement therapy (RRT) in the pediatric population. In children with low income families PD is the only therapeutic modality and is important to know the quality of life that this treatment offers
