Abstract :

The face of medicine has changed over the years with multiple medications being manufactured for a single disease leading to debates about the usefulness of an agent. Even the portrayal of disease as a single entity has metamorphosized, with comorbid conditions being diagnosed like never before. In the midst of such confusion, there is a need for clear understanding of the basis of the disease, its medications and their effects. Being vigilant is an important aspect of life and even more so when the lives of others are concerned, as is with medicine. Pharmacovigilance is a concept which relates to mechanisms that adversely affect a patient?s health. Along with collection of information, it is necessary to dissipate it. Hence, pharmacovigilance also encompasses forming global networks, which enables thorough information exchange and data storage. As the global scenario of medicine changes, the role of pharmacovigilance will increase and definitely impact prescriptions and the overall fate of a drug.
