General objective: to determine the incidence, clinical and image findings of patients admitted to the emergency department of the University Hospital Erasmo Meoz in the city of Cucuta from August 1, 2007, to July 31, 2017. A retrospective descriptive study was carried out. We identify 1050 patients with the discharge diagnosis of preeclampsia, eclampsia and hypertensive encephalopathy (with their respective code according to the ICD-10). We excluded 1022 patients. Finally, 28 patients with a diagnosis of Reversible Posterior Encephalopathy Syndrome were included. Results: An incidence of 0.026 was determined. The underlying pathologies that are mainly related to PRES are preeclampsia and arterial hypertension followed by HELLP syndrome. The main clinical manifestation in the patients was a seizure (75%) followed by a headache (71%). The most frequently found imaging findings in the CT scan were hypodense lesions located in bilateral parieto-occipital lobes (67.86%). Conclusion: Recent literature has shown an increase in the incidence of PRES and it is to be found that to obtain an early diagnosis is necessary to correlate the clinical manifestations with the most frequent imaging findings and basic pathologies with the individual characteristics of each patient.
