Pregnancy is a critical period in every woman’s life. Health of both mother and her unborn child is at stake with poor access to needed prenatal care services. Obtaining prenatal care is affected by pregnancy literacy of the expectant mother. However, assessment tool of health literacy among Filipino pregnant women is limited. This paper aimed to examine existing maternal health literacy instruments. Hopefully, an adopted tool can be found for assessing prenatal health literacy. After examining existing maternal health literacy tool, 18 questions were suggested that can be further modified before its use for Filipino pregnant women in assessing their prenatal health literacy.
Eva Belingon Felipe-Dimog has completed her Master’s degree at the age of 29 years from the University of the Philippine Manila. She is now 34 years of age and currently taking her PhD in Public Health from Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. She is also a faculty member of the Department of Nursing in Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, Bontoc, Mountain Province, Philippines. She has one published perspective article and another accepted paper to be published on the third week of September, 2021.
