Today mankind has to live in conditions of increased radiation background: the consequences of accidents in Chernobyl, Fukushima, the appearance of ruthenium in the atmosphere, the launches of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear charges and forced irradiation of tumor tissues again raises the issue of finding of the ways to mitigate or eliminate the effects of irradiation for the injured organism. One of the solutions to this problem are measures to reduce the possible damaging effects of radiation with the help of radioprotectors. In the wide range of these preparations, along with synthetic agents, are increasingly used plant derivatives - phytopreparations, which favorably have a lower toxicity, mild effect, and social accessibility. Most of them can be used per os, which is especially important, given that the gastrointestinal tract (and especially the small intestine) is one of the most radiosensitive organs. In the submitting work on the basis of literature data and own data obtained in vitro and in vivo experiments in the small intestine of rats, the radioprotective capabilities of various phytopreparations are analyzed, and their effectiveness is evaluated.
