Refuse is always associated with filth, diseases and bad odors but can be a source of some common raw materials and yield sizable income. To obtain a measure of the quantity of recoverable items such as scrap metals, glass, paper and plastics. Data were collected from the Oyo state Environmental Sanitation Authority and other sources. Cost estimate for the varies items were gathered from the scavengers. Results of the study indicate; that about 64 percent by weight can be recovered and recycled for the reuse of the public. Due to the inflation in the country, the amount of money (N20, N10, N30 and N40 per kilogram for paper, plastics, glass and metals respectively) could be made, if the scavenging is properly organized.
