Abstract :

Introduction & Aim: In recent years, some epidemiological surveys of risk factors for COPD have been done in China, but the relevance is shown different in these surveys. A systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken to identify the main risk factors of COPD in Chinese mainland population. Methods: All language, original, full-text research articles published between January 1, 1989 and September 31, 2016 were searched through electronic databases, including The Cochrane Library, PubMed, CNKI, CBM, WanFang Data and so on. Case-control studies on the incidence of COPD were systematically included and analyzed using Comprehensive Meta- Analysis V2 software. Results: Twenty (20) studies involving 7372 cases and 8394 controls were included in this study. Ten factors were extracted as risk factors of COPD, including smoking (OR=2.29, 95% CI: 1.94 to 2.71), occupational exposure (OR=2.07, 95% CI: 1.30 to 3.27), family history of respiratory system disease (OR=1.96, 95% CI: 1.61 to 2.38), coal or biomass burning (OR=2.19, 95% CI: 1.56 to 3.08), low BMI (OR=3.28, 95% CI: 2.74 to 3.92), gender (male) (OR=1.42, 95% CI: 1.06 to 1.88), low education degree (OR=1.29, 95% CI: 1.03 to 1.61), passive smoking (OR=1.76, 95% CI: 1.23 to 2.53), allergy history (OR=2.19, 95% CI: 1.16 to 4.13) and chronic occupational exposure respiratory disease during childhood (OR=2.47, 95% CI: 1.43 to 4.27). Conclusion: Smoking, occupational exposure, family history of respiratory system disease, coal or biomass burning, low BMI, gender (male), low education degree, passive smoking, allergy history and chronic respiratory disease during childhood are main risk factors of COPD among Chinese mainland population.
