Abstract :

The Diabetic Foot Disease is a growing pandemic, around 25% of people suffering from Diabetes will be affected by a Foot Ulcer during their life; it is more frequent between the ages of 45 and 65 years old. The 35% of the patients suffering from Diabetic Foot Ulcers usually evolve to more complex lesions and 40% of them develop gangrene. The importance of a right classification of the lesions in the Diabetic Foot Disease lies on the fact that it determines the treatment and can contribute to give data about the prognosis and the possible amputations. The rates of amputations around the world are very high and the work teams in Cuba today have a high rate of success with the use of the medication Heberprot-P, avoiding them in 71%. With the correct use of this medicine, the number of amputations could decrease drastically, even up to 91%, as well as the recidive of the lesion. The treatment with Heberprot-P was developed by the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) for the treatment of the Diabetic Foot Disease after a long investigation process and clinical rehearsals to validate its results. The generalized use of the Heberprot-P and the application of the protocols of the Integral Program for the Treatment of the Diabetic Foot Ulcers has changed the paradigms in the surgical treatment for this disease. In this work, we intend this data are visualized by others investigators around the world for their knowledge and evaluation.
