Objective: To explore (investigate) the experiences of family caregivers of children with tumor receiving PICC -line insertion. Methods: A semi-structured interview was conducted with 16 family caregivers of children with tumor receiving PICC insertion. Data were analyzed based on Colaizzi�¢����s phenomenological research method. Results: Five themes were extracted, including lack of knowledge and skills of family care, heavy psychological burden, weakness of social support system, to face calmly and respond actively, a sense of achievement from nursing experience accumulation. Conclusions: Understanding the experiences and problems of family caregivers can help nurses provide professional family care education and psychological counseling to alleviate their psychological burden and meet their needs.
Wei Gao is an Associate Professor of Shandong University, Master supervisor and Head Nurse of PICC out patient of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University. She has been engaged in PICC for more than 10 years, especially good at inserting PICC line for critically ill patients and children, and handling all kinds of complications related to PICC. Her main research direction is cancer care and PICC. She gained fruitful research results and published 30 articles in domestic core journals.
