Objective: To discuss the influence of disaster-preparedness education on university studentsâ?? cognition, action and ability of
disaster prevention and preparedness, so that we can provide a reference for setting up disaster-related courses in universities
in the future.
Methods: The questionnaire was circulated among 37 students who attended the course of disaster-preparedness education
from a university, so that we could find the differences of studentsâ?? cognition, action and ability of disaster prevention and
preparedness between before and after class.
Results: After the disaster-preparedness education, studentsâ?? cognition, action and ability of disaster prevention and
preparedness have been improved to a certain degree. The cognition score of disaster prevention and preparedness was raised
from 5.46 points before class to 8.24 points after class (P<0.001). The action score of disaster preparedness and preparedness
was raised from 2.65 points before class to 6.89 after class (P<0.001). The ability for disaster preparedness was increased from
26.11 before class to 33.73 after class (P<0.001) and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Disaster-preparedness education can improve studentsâ?? cognition, action and ability of disaster prevention and
preparedness and it deserves in-depth study and comprehensive promotion.
