Abstract: The traditional teacher-to-student unidirectional mode of education is gradually changing to peer-topeer mode. The new mode of nurse education requires highly self-motivated learners who are willing to teach their peers and to co-create learning content with other students and teachers e.g., video clips. Nurse educators should understand these two attributes of their learners before they adopt the new mode in their academic program. However, no previous study has investigated the perceived abilities of self-directed learning and peer teaching among Hong Kong nurse leaners. This study, which used cross sectional design, to identify the perceived abilities of self-directed learning and peer teaching among the bachelor level mental health nursing students. Two self-reported questionnaires (Self Directed Learning Instrument & Peer Teaching Scale) were distributed to students online to measure their perceived attributes on self-directed learning and peer teaching. Sixty-five (n=65) out of sixty-eight nurse learners completed the questionnaires. The result indicated that the mean score of Self Directed Learning Instrument was 71.52 with standard deviation equal to 9.126, while the means score of Peer Teaching Scale was 34.92 with standard deviation equal to 7.751. Nurse educators in Hong Kong institutes could take reference from these results, when they are designing their curriculum that involve peer-to-peer learning activities e.g., peer instruction and content co-creation.
