The objective of this study was to examine the effect of Molsidomine on the embryos of Wistar rat. Pregnant rats were treated with 10 mg/kg subcutaneously either on the 10th or 9th and 10thor 8th, 9th& 10th or 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th mating day. The result showed that molsidomine produced a significant frequent abortion and hyperemic changes beside its effect on the somite numbers and crown-rump length of embryo. It is concluded that molsidomine (a nitric oxide donor) is potentially harmful to embryos and it can be categorized under category B3 and it effect should be considered if it is prescribed to pregnant women.
Fadhil Wasfi is currently a Lecturer of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology in the School of Medicine at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Jordan. Previously he has worked as a Dermatologist, General Medical Practitioner in various hospitals. He was also the former Member of the Examining Committee for the Iraqi Board Postgraduate degree in Dermatology and Venereology.
