The paper covers mankinds search for extra-terrestrial life and investigates the reasons for the lack of any confirmed detections. Methods spanning from the scanning of incoming radio signals to the spectral detection of organic compounds are thoroughly reviewed. The search for extra-terrestrial intelligence has not proven fruitful despite the statistical odds. This paper discusses alternate techniques; gamification and gravitational wave detection that can be used for the detection of extraterrestrial life and extra-terrestrial intelligence. Gamification as a technique has revolutionized citizen science and has been used in everything from protein folding studies to space archaeology. Gamification techniques that have been employed for the detection of habitable exoplanets are extensively reviewed. The use of gravitational waves as a means to detect the presence of extra-terrestrial life forms is also explored. These waves have existed from the beginning of the creation of the universe and could be the mode of communication for advanced civilizations. sagarikarao1999@gmail.com
