Abstract :

The present study is on meningioma among 614 patients with brain tumor (consists of meningioma, glioma and pituitary tumor). Among them, 145 patients had meningioma. Our results are in various topics: clinical features of meningioma; anatomical distribution; radiation induced meningioma; meningioma and foster Kennedy syndrome; meningioma and pseudo foster Kennedy syndrome; multiple meningiomaâ??s; post traumatic and skull fracture meningioma; cutaneous meningioma; meningioma and DVT; trigeminal neuralgia and meningioma; recurrent meningioma; physiotherapy after meningioma surgery and some other factors. We are going on to continue this study. This research project has been held in neurosurgery ward at Shariati Hospital and is scientifically registered. We decided to present our observation during six years about pulmonary physiotherapy and rehabilitation at neurosurgical ICU. We found that, the presence of a physiotherapist is necessary after brain tumor surgery. One of the complications at neurosurgical ICU is pneumonia after diagnosis, in order to find the exact etiology for fever by complete workup and infectious disease service consultation, patients have to take antibiotics, so hospitalizations will take longer. These mentioned above showed importance of any infection prevention at ICU specially pneumonia, but what is the main reason for pneumonia after skull surgery? It is obvious that these patients suffer severe pain, so that, we as physicians prescribe opioid like drugs (pethidine and morphine). Both of these conditions can make respiratory rate slower and reduce depth of inspiration which leads to atelectasis as well as infection and because of low level of consciousness, aspiration is common in ICU after surgery that can make even abscess formation, consolidation. The role of physiotherapists here is patient breathing instructions and does rehabilitation techniques. About our patients and study sample, pneumonia rate among patients with pulmonary rehabilitation and physical therapy techniques significantly was lower. It shows, very important role of physiotherapists beside ICU bed after tumor surgery. We dedicate the study results in detail in figures and tables with discussion at oral presentation time.
