Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is highly expressed in multiple cancer types and contributes to the Warburg effect. This lecture will cover our recent findings on the mechanisms underlying the up regulation of PKM2, nuclear translocation of PKM2, and metabolic and non-metabolic functions of PKM2 in promoting cancer cell metabolism and proliferation. The strategic approaches to interrupt PKM2 function for treating cancer will also be discussed.
Zhimin Lu?s work is to delineate the mechanisms of cellular signaling regulation in cancer cell metabolism, proliferation, migration and metastasis. His laboratory focuses on three areas: understanding how cancer advances by altering cancer cell metabolism; understanding how cancer cells migrate, invade and metastasize, and understanding how cancer progresses by promoting cell survival. He is an associate editor of Chinese Journal of Cancer and an editorial board member of other 8 journals including Cell Research and Neuro-Oncology.
