Modern transcription is the merger of experience and science, and often the final step of a factual audio presentation to the courts and jury. Accurate transcription requires more than just good hearing and attention to detail. The expert must possess the right tools and a clear understanding of their usage. This session will present the industry history and innovations of transcription, a case study, and some common industry mistakes.
Julie Thompson has been in the transcription arena for over 13 years, and has run her own business, Thompson Transcription, for more than 10 years. Trained in legal transcription in college, Julie originally got her foot in the door in transcription through the medical community, specializing in orthopaedic and neurologic specialities. Julie specialized in accents and difficult speakers, which helped to develop an ear that can pick up what many transcriptionists cannot in difficult audio. As the medical industry started becoming heavily outsourced, Julie grew her legal business and eventually focused solely on the court and investigative aspects of legal transcription. Working with a variety of lawyers, investigators, and court reporters, Julie continues to keep her skills sharp by the ever constant change of transcription product needed.
