Abstract :

Pelvic and sacral resections are highly complicated surgeries that demands delicate surgical skills and multidisciplinary teams� cooperation. This is to review the literature and discuss the different options in addition to management approach to these difficult cases. The aim is directed to increase the awareness of this field of oncology surgery and the available health technology that gives the best outcome to patients with primary and secondary malignancy of the pelvis and sacrum. This session is aimed for orthopedic and oncology surgeons in addition to orthopedic residents. Outlines and objectives: - Objectives: The following objectives will be covered: - Describe the approach to primary and secondary malignancies. Surgical decisions of different cases. Classification of pelvic and sacral resections. Preoperative planning. Use of available modern high technologies during surgery and their benefits. Discuss the need for multidisciplinary teams intraoperatively. Description of different approaches and use of flaps for closure. Description of different flaps to cover tissue deficiencies. Decision whether to do bony defect reconstruction or not. Options of reconstruction. Post-operative rehabilitation and recovery. At the end of the session, few difficult cases will be presented and discussed with the candidates.

Biography :

Mohammed Al Sobeai has completed his Medical School from Dammam University in 2004. He has completed the Saudi Orthopedic Board in 2012 and Jordanian Board in Orthopedic Surgery in 2013. Presently, he is a Canadian Fellowship trained Orthopedic, Oncologist and Lower Limb Reconstruction Specialist. He has published many orthopedic research projects and actively involved in literature review and editing.
