Lord Rayleighâ??s 2D whispering gallery mode (WGM) in early 20C was born again at the end of 20C, as the â??photonic quantum ringâ? (PQR) laser of 3D whispering cave mode (WCM) like the 3D acoustic resonance in Batistery near the Duomo di Pisa. The PQR, found in the peripheral Rayleigh band at the cylindrical mesa rim of 1D VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting lasers) pillars, is from the resonant double helix standing waves (CW and CCW) of the 3D WCM donut. The PQR exhibits 3D rainbow spectra of view-angle-dependent sharp modes over 30 nm span (Figure 1), while the PQR becomes single mode for diam. less than 1 ?¼m. A simple spatio-temporal dynamic model based upon the Maxwell equation for the waves and MaxwellBoltzmann equation for the imminently recombinant carriers in the Rayleigh band, shows web-like quantum wire forms appearing like the spatio-temporal diffraction patterns to our surprise, right after several picoseconds-long chaos. The involved carrier velocity is in the range of 107 cm/sec. The circular shape of the PQR perimeter may become ellipse, square, or hexagon as well. Gesture recognition (GR), or motion detection schemes, are important for the artificial intelligence (AI) vision and for the GR application we show spatio-spectral GR schemes for novel AI vision without TOF troubles.
