SHAYAN M BYRAPPA
Senior Engineer
GlobalFoundries
United States
PhD research focused on studying defects in semiconductor, optical and optoelectronic crystals to understand their origins. Part of the work involved in establishing the relationship between crystal growth conditions and resulting defect distributions in single crystal materials, such as SiC, Si, GaN/ AlN/ Si, Al2O3, SiGe, ZnO, GaAs. The primary technique used is the Synchrotron X-ray Topography along with other complimentary tools such as HR- TEM, triple- axis XRD, AFM, SEM/ EDAX, Nomarski Optical Microscope. During PhD research projects were received from leading industries such as Dow Corning, Cree, II-VI Inc., Apple, Intel. Dow Corning company projects were received from national research labs such as Army Research Lab and Office of Naval Research and sent to my group for detailed studies. Current position at GlobalFoundries as Senior Engineer involves both industrial and research duties. As an Engineer involved in handling manufacturing tools worth millions and collaborations with engineers from France, Germany, Denmark and Israel. Will be completing soon a green belt project which will be saving at least $1.5 million/ year for my company. Part of my work also involves research work by collaborating with universities and industrial consortiums to create pathway for future technology which is extremely important for the survival of semiconductor industries. This work involves me to file patents and write research articles as necessary.
