Biography

Spyridon Koulouris, MD, PhD, FESC is holding the position of “Oberazt in Kardiologie” and he is directing the Electrophysiology Laboratory in the Cardiology Department of Klinikum Bayreuth, Bayreuth, Germany. After graduating from Varvakion Model Scholl in Athens, Dr. Koulouris received his medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He trained in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology at the Evangelismos Hospital, Athens, Greece and at the Boston Medical Center, Boston, USA. He also completed a PhD at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. From 1997 until 2012 he was Attending Cardiologist in clinical and interventional cardiology and electrophysiologist at the Evangelismos Hospital, Greece. In 2012 he is been appointed as director of the Electrophysiology Lab in the Klinikum Bayreuth, Bayreuth, Germany.
Dr. Koulouris has performed more than 1000 implantations of Cardiac Devices, more than 500 Electrophysiology Studies and Arrhythmia Ablations as well as more than 1000 Cardiac Catheterizations and Coronary Angioplasties.
Similarly broad are his research interests including endothelial dysfunction and the mechanisms of atherosclerosis, anatomy and histopathology of coronary arteries and techniques of pacemaker lead extraction.
Dr. Koulouris has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and 5 chapters in Textbooks including the chapter “Anemia and Cardiovascular Disease” in the Textbook “Alternatives to Blood Transfusion in Transfusion Medicine” Willey - Blackwell publishing Ltd 2011.
He is a recipient of the NATO Award, the Alexandros S. Onnasis Foundation Award and the Hellenic Cardiologic Society Award and he has received the titels of Research Associate and Teaching Associate in Medicine from the Boston University School of Medicine.
He is a reviewer for several journals and Associate Editor of the "Hospital Chronicles" Medical Journal
