Biography

I have a diverse educational background. I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and later joined Master’s program in Biotechnology after qualifying for the ‘All India Biotechnology Entrance Examination’, which is highly competitive. I later qualified another national-level test to receive a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) from Human Resource Development Group, Government of India. In addition, I also qualified the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination organized by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Based on CSIR-JRF fellowship, I was admitted to a Ph.D. program in Biotechnology at the University of Pune, India, where I worked as a Junior/Senior Research Fellow and was awarded Ph.D. degree in April, 2009. After completing his doctoral work, I joined National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Mohali, India as a Scientist, and later got an appointment as Assistant Professor at ISF College of Pharmacy, Punjab Technical University, India. I joined University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute (USAMCI) in November, 2010 as a postdoctoral fellow, and promoted as a senior research associate in January 2015. Since my joining at USAMCI, I have been involved in multiple projects revolving around the treatment and prevention of pancreatic and skin malignancies. My other research interests are development of metal and polymer- based nanodelivery systems for efficient and targeted delivery of active molecules for cancer prevention and therapy. In fact, considering the novelty of our findings on silver nanoparticles and potential human applications, we filed a U.S. patent. Recently, I joined I as an Instructor at University of South Alabama, College of Engineering and currently running a core facility for Transmission electron microscopy. I am also working on various projects in collaboration with Mitchell Cancer Institute, University of South Alabama. Thus far I have been able to publish an impressive number of highly cited peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals including The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine, and Carcinogenesis. This is apparent when one considers more than 25 publications and 1383 citations in the short period of seven years since my first publication.
