Chronic diseases are long-term medical conditions that are generally progressive. Some examples of chronic diseases include heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and chronic respiratory problems. At present, these are the major cause of disability and death globally. Chronic diseases are also the major cause of premature adult deaths. Chronic diseases are mostly characterized by: complex causality, multiple risk factors, long latency periods, a prolonged course of illness, functional impairment or disability.
