Colon diseases are diseases affecting the large intestine of the digestive system. Colon is the long hollow tube at the end of the digestive tract where body stores stools. Few of the disorders that affect the functioning of the colon are
Colorectal cancer: Colon and rectum are the parts of the large intestine. Colorectal Cancer occurs with the development of tumors in the lining of the large intestine.
Colorectal Polyps: Polyps are the extra pieces of tissue that grow in the large intestine or colon. Most of the polyps are not harmful, there is a minor probability of polyp transforming into tumor. Polyps are diagnosed by colonoscopy.
Ulcerative Colitis: Ulcerative colitis occurs due to the result of inflammation and sores that are developed in the inner walls of colon and rectum called as ulcers. Symptoms associated with colitis are abdominal pain, blood or pus in diarrhea, bleeding from the rectum, sores on the skin, joint pains, loss of appetite, severe tiredness.
Ulcerative colitis is diagnosed by colonoscopy, blood tests and stool tests.
Divertuculitis: is the occurrence of inflammation and infection pouches on the colon.
Irritable bowel syndrome: is a gastrointestinal disorder grouped into bowel diseases associated with abdominal pain and irregular bowel movement symptoms.
