A fullerene is a molecule of carbon in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, tube, and many other shapes. Fullerenes are similar in structure to graphite, which is composed of stacked graphene sheets of linked hexagonal rings. The reactivity of fullerenes can be increased by attaching active groups to their surfaces. In medical field, fullerene is attached to binding specific antibiotics inorder to target resistant bacteria and even target certain cancer cells such as melanoma.
