A microorganism or microbe is a living organism which are too small to be seen with naked eye but visible under a microscope. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms. Bacteria, fungi, archaea or protists, virus, algae are included under microorganisms.
Microorganisms are present all around us, in the air, in our bodies and in water. Microrganisms keep nature clean by removing toxins from water and soil, and degrade organic matter from dead plants and animals. In the human body microorganisms aid in digestion and help prevent invasion by harmful bacteria. Although some bacteria are harmful, the vast majority are not harmful, but in fact beneficial. Without bacteria, life would not be possible. Some microorganisms are harmful to us, but others are helpful to us.
