Stomach ulcers are caused when the reduction of thick layer of mucosal lining that protects the stomach from digestive juices resulting in damage by digestive juices to tissues that line the stomach. Stomach ulcers are caused by infection by bacterium Helicobacter pylori and with the long term usage of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). Symptoms associated with ulcers are weight loss, burping caused due to acid reflux, nausea or vomiting, bloating, loss of appetite. Stomach ulcers are diagnosed by endoscopy, endoscopic biopsy and barium swallow.
