Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases & Diagnosis is pleased to announce Special issue on the topic “Cardiovascular disease and Covid-19”.
Worldwide the priority is now to conduct research studies on COVID-19. Given the impact of COVID-19 on the cardiovascular system, cardiovascular healthcare researchers will play an important role in this unexpected problem/crisis which we are all facing currently. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), infects the host cells through ACE 2 receptors, leading to coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related pneumonia, while also causing acute myocardial injury and chronic damage to the cardiovascular system. Therefore, special attention should be given to cardiovascular protection during treatment for COVID-19. This COVID-19 seems to escalate the risk in the patients with heart disease. Mainly, it seems the patients with co-morbidities such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension are at the highest risk of mortality.
